Every summer, families across Florida dive into one of the state’s most exciting traditions – lobstering! It’s part treasure hunt, part swimming adventure and all fun. During Regular Spiny Lobster Season August 6 through March 31, parents and kids can explore the first reef in just 10 to 20 feet of water – perfect for snorkeling together and spotting lobsters tucked into rocky hiding spots.
For deeper reefs, scuba gear is a must, but it is possible to find some action closer to shore. There’s nothing quite like the thrill of spotting your first lobster, gently coaxing it into a net, and enjoying a dinner you helped catch later. It’s hands-on, heartwarming and a great reminder that families often make their best memories far from screens – and sometimes, just beneath the surface.
