Keeping kids safe around water

As the weather heats up, South Florida families will flock to pools and beaches to keep cool. Here are some events designed to instill important safety reminders for those heading in, on and around the water.

Water Safety Day

Saturday, May 4

The City of Pembroke Pines hosts a fun-filled day with water related activities, safety tips, vendors, giveaways, music and food. 10am-noon, Academic Village Pool, 17191 Sheridan Street, http://www.ppines.com

Cox Media Group Water Safety

Awareness Event

Saturday, May 11

Spend some time navigating six different water safety stations while learning more about CPR, swimming and lifeguards. There will also be music, vendors, character entertainers and food trucks. 9am-noon, Paradise Cove at TY Park, 954-357-8811 http://www.broward.org/parks

Water Safety Event

Saturday, May 18

Bring the family for an interactive session where water safety topics will be discussed and children will have a chance to participate in water activities focused on safety techniques. 10-11am, Miami Springs Aquatic Center, 1401 Westward Dr., 305-805-5078 http://www.miamisprings-fl.gov

Pirate Plunge and Safety Sail

Saturday, May 18

Have a day of fun and learning with pool, sprayground and slide time, life-saving swim lessons, a drowning prevention rescue mission, and a hands-on educational seminar. Free. 10am-1pm, Caporella Aquatic Complex, 9300 NW 58 St., Tamarac, http://www.tamarac.org

Water Safety Event

Saturday, May 18
