From Greece with Love! The 40th Annual Fort Lauderdale Greek Festival
FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, January 25, 2019 – What do 3000 pieces of Spanakopita (spinach pie) 1000 pounds of lamb, chicken, beef, wings, 500 pounds of Feta Cheese, 450 pounds of flour, 400 pounds of potatoes, 150 pounds of eggplant, and 10,000 cookies ALL EQUAL?
Authentic Greek Cuisine! It’s coming, for all to enjoy, during the 40th Annual Fort Lauderdale Greek Festival, hosted by St Demetrious Greek Orthodox Church, Thursday, February 7 through Sunday February 10th.
St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 815 NE 15 Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, is located just north of downtown, off Sunrise Boulevard next to Holiday Park. At the Festival, south Floridians will experience the best of Greek warm hospitality (philoxenia), — tasting authentic home-made Greek food and spirits, applauding our Greek-folk dancers in traditional costumes, shopping unique products and enjoying Greek lifestyle and customs.
Feel our love as we launch our new food area, Athens Street Food, where you will taste the unique flavors of Athens. Taste delicious charcoal grilled Greek Chicken Wings, Greek Pork Ribs and Greek Souvlaki. Feel our love as we share our love with our community partner, the Broward Partnership for the Homeless. On Thursday night, bring a can of food (or more) for free admission. Feel our love with an expanded Greek Kafenion (have a coffee, delicious loukamades (sweet fried dough and honey-dipped and hangout!) and a local Greek food and wine and beer agora (store).
Feel our love with over 400 parish volunteers extending their warm greetings and assistance at the Festival. “The Festival makes for a wonderful and affordable weekend, full of great authentic Greek food and fun activities for the whole family,” said Dr. George Georgakakis, President of the Parish Council. “It’s a chance to bring the multi-cultural community of greater Fort Lauderdale together to celebrate Greek culture and feel our love of our community.”
Festival hours are Thursday 5PM to 10PM ((Donate a can of food to benefit the Broward Center for the Homeless and receive free admission – Thursday), Friday and Saturday are from 12p.m. to 11 p.m.; Sunday the festival is open from noon to 7p.m. Admission is $5, Adults, Children under 12 and military/police/fire are free. Parking is available for $5 at Art Serve and Holiday Park. VIP Parking is also available adjacent to the church.
