Event Details

Children joining their parents and grandparents on Saturday, January 26, 2019 for the 28th annual Susan G. Komen South Florida Race for the Cure will have plenty of fun to look forward to this year. Excitement is building as Downtown West Palm Beach prepares to turn pink with runners, walkers, a painting hedgehog and photogenic flamingos all flocking to the waterfront to join the fight against breast cancer.

The 2019 Kids Zone will feature two flamingos from the Palm Beach Zoo. Kids will be able to pose with Valentina and Catalina from a safe distance at the “Always Pink for Breast Cancer” photo spot. Another exotic Zoo friend — a very artistic hedgehog – will be painting a picture for Komen by walking his tiny paws through paint. His unique study-in-pink creation will then be auctioned off to benefit the organization.

Art lovers will delight at the Rhythm & Hues booth, which will feature Komen-inspired art pieces and lots of pink craft stations. Curly Fry the Clown will be painting faces, and kids can try the sand art table and cornhole boards, all courtesy of Kids Zone sponsor Lesser, Lesser, Landy and Smith.

Sport-loving tikes will love Palm Beach Skate Zone’s street hockey clinics on the lawn. Triumph Kids will be hosting an obstacle course featuring multi-sensory/all-inclusive challenges for every age and ability. Loggerhead Marinelife Center will host an interactive and educational fishing activity. Jupiter Bounce will offer several activities including a toddler bounce house, an inflatable obstacle course for bigger kids and a bubble machine. Kids can challenge each other and their caregivers to some old-fashioned games in giant, fun sizes like Connect Four, Legos, foam horseshoes and pong.

The high-energy Kids Zone fun will continue as the Florida Panthers dancers show off their moves. Kids will spot plenty of Princesses Against Cancer and Storm Troopers from the Everglades Squad mingling and interacting with the crowd.
