Heatstroke in vehicles is the leading cause of all non-crash-related fatalities involving children 14 and younger.

Published: July 16, 2021
By: Parry Silcox

Florida ranks 4th in the U.S. in the number of hyperthermia deaths of children in vehicles, and it isn’t surprising: Even with a window rolled down a few inches, if the outside temperature is in the low 80s, the temperature inside a vehicle can reach deadly levels in as few as 10 minutes. Young children under 4 are particularly at risk because their bodies overheat more easily.
