Extra sales-tax holiday gives consumers a price break on entertainment, sporting events and outdoor gear
Published: June 30, 2021
Boaters, campers and culture lovers have another reason to celebrate freedom this Fourth of July with “Freedom Week,” a statewide tax holiday for recreational and cultural activities. From July 1 to July 7, Floridians can get a tax break on things like concert and theater tickets, as well as outdoor gear such as boating, fishing and camping supplies.
This means consumers can skip the sales tax when buying tickets during Freedom Week for events happening through the end of 2021, including concerts, sports events, musicals and plays, museums, movies, ballets, fairs and festivals. The tax break applies to annual pass purchases as well.
Also, consumers can save on water gear such as life jackets, coolers, paddleboards and surfboards, kayaks, water floats, snorkels and swim masks. The camping gear break includes tents, sleeping bags, camping stoves, flashlights and other gear. Fishing rods and reels, tackle boxes and bait are also eligible, as well as sunscreen, insect repellent, sunglasses, binoculars, outdoor grills, bikes and bike helmets, and sports equipment.
The annual Back to School tax-free week is also planned, starting at the end of this month, July 31, through Aug. 9. Floridians can pick up supplies tax-free, such as clothing, footwear and backpacks costing $60 or less; school supplies costing $15 or less; and the first $1,000 of the price of personal computers and computer accessories.
