This little break runs through Thursday, August 20
With prices high, everyone is looking for a deal. Take advantage of the 2026 Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday, when qualifying back-to-school supplies are exempt from tax. This annual savings event started on July 20 and runs through Thursday, August 20.
During this period, a variety of items are exempt from Florida sales tax if they meet the specified price limits and conditions. For example, eligible items include personal computers, calculators, electronic book readers, laptops and tablets (each with a sales price of $1,500 or less for noncommercial use). However, some items are not eligible, such as cellular phones, video game consoles, and devices that are not primarily designed to process data.
Tax-exempt accessories include items like keyboards, mice, modems, monitors, and non-recreational software, but do not include furniture, devices used primarily for recreation, or monitors with a television tuner. Wallets and bags such as backpacks and diaper bags (up to $100 per item) are eligible, but briefcases and suitcases are not. School supplies like binders, crayons, folders, and glue are covered, as long as each item costs $50 or less.
Additionally, learning aids and jigsaw puzzles having a sales price of $30 or less, including flashcards, learning cards, interactive or electronic books and toys, matching or memory games, puzzle books, search-and-find books, and stacking or nesting blocks or sets, are exempt. Clothing, footwear, and accessories such as shirts, pants, dresses, skirts, shorts, shoes, boots, sandals, belts, hats, gloves and scarves are also eligible if the sales price is $100 or less per item.
