Water Taxi, which is currently open for private tours only, is opening to the public on Thursday with a single route from the Riverside Hotel/Stranahan House on the New River out to various stops along the Intracoastal Waterway. And they’ll trumpet the news with a live concert from School of Rock on the boat’s upper deck on Wednesday evening.

“The kids are going to come aboard, and we’re going to carry them around and let them do a free concert from the Water Taxi,” said Haley Weigle, a Water Taxi spokesperson.

“It will be fun and safe for the kids,” she said. “School of Rock is super pumped, and we’re really excited.”

The rock band will do a two-hour tour on the route from 5 to 7 p.m., so people will be able to see and hear the band along the New River and along the Intracoastal from the 17th Street Bridge to the Oakland Park Boulevard bridge. Fans can also watch the concert live on Facebook.

Water Taxi will operate Thursdays through Sundays (plus Memorial Day) at 25 percent capacity, and riders are encouraged to pre-buy tickets online to avoid being turned away. Tickets are hop-on-hop-off, all-day passes, so passengers can start and finish anywhere along the 90-minute route.

Passengers will be screened with a no-touch temperature wand before boarding, and masks are encouraged and provided, but not required.

Riders can bring their own food and drinks for a day on the water, but no coolers or pets are allowed. The taxis also sell beer, water and snacks for passengers. Learn more at watertaxi.com.
