Eats & Treats
Favorite Burger Joint
Five Guys
The concept of Five Guys dates back to 1986 when Jerry and Janie Murrell gave this advice to their sons, “Start a business or go to college.” From there, the family business was born. Beginning with a single carry-out location in Arlington, Virginia, the business blossomed into a popular franchise now with nearly 1,500 locations worldwide. Five Guys keeps its model simple — serve fresh, hand-formed burgers, cooked to perfection. It’s an approach customers are eating up and are continuing to come back for more. Multiple locations.
Favorite Breakfast Place
Roasters ‘N Toasters
It may seem like it, but no, you are not in Brooklyn. Serving up traditional New York-style fare such as homemade bagels, schmears and breakfast dishes like smoked fish platters, corned beef and Reuben sandwiches, this eatery pleases the palates of New Yorkers and Floridians alike. The deli also serves up bigger-than-your-mouth sammies, including the West Side Story and Trifecta, for those with a heartier appetite. With four locations throughout Miami-Dade, this deli has been a staple in Pinecrest, where it originally opened in 1984. Locations in Aventura, Miami Beach, Pinecrest and The Falls.

Favorite Pizza Place
Pizza Rustica
With over 35 varieties ranging from salad pizza to mega meat, patrons give Pizza Rustica’s Roman-style pizza a thumbs-up. Forget about the freezers. There aren’t any here. Dough is made daily, and the sauce is made from scratch using San Marzano tomatoes. Quality toppings include organic produce, natural chicken and fresh garden herbs. Patrons can choose to buy a piece by the slice, but after one bite, they just might reconsider purchasing an entire pie. Located on Washington Avenue, Lincoln Road, Downtown Miami and Brickell.
Favorite Restaurant Where Kids Eat Free (or almost free)
Duffy’s
Duffy’s Sports Grill is a fan favorite with hungry families, especially on Wednesdays, when kids eat free all day. Those who are dining in can receive one free kids meal for each adult entrée purchased. Choices include macaroni and cheese, mini burgers, angel hair pasta and chicken tenders. Meals come with a side, fruit and drink. There’s an extensive menu for the adult crowd too, and numerous televisions throughout, so you never have to miss a game. Multiple locations.
Favorite family Restaurant
GreenStreet Café
Beyond your average bistro, this Coconut Grove eatery is a place where the entire community converges to dine, schmooze and people watch. Families, athletes and artists all rate this place equally. Its popularity could be attributed to the cool vibe of the velvet couch sidewalk seating, or its unique menu choices like Nutella-filled French toast for breakfast, fig salad for lunch and the Impossible Veggie Burger with fontina and dijonnaise for dinner. There’s plenty of outdoor seating around the café, where you can watch all that goes on, and there are also tables inside. 3468 Main Highway, Coconut Grove, 305-444-0244

Favorite Farmers Market
Lincoln Road Farmers Market
Under typical circumstances, this outdoor farmers market along Lincoln Road is a scenic source for baked goods, organic produce and fresh air. Although the pandemic has temporarily caused the market to close up shop, organizers look forward to opening as soon as permitted. In the meantime, vendors such as Shoot Baguette Plus and MondÉpice – Spices & Teas Co. are fulfilling orders online. Check Facebook @LincolnRoadFarmersMarket for updates.
