Dog Dates – They say every dog has its day, and at Fairchild Gardens there are three this month – October 6, 20 and 27. On these select Sunday mornings, Fairchild opens its gates to our furry friends for Dog Dates at the Garden. The stroll is for pooches, and their humans, to explore the attraction’s 83 acres of lush land. The event runs from 8 to 10 a.m., and dogs must remain on a leash at all times. Tickets are $24.95/adult, $15.95/student and $11.95/child, and are available online. For more information, visit http://www.fairchildgarden.org.
Pups in the Pool – Fido has been waiting all season to make a splash, and now it’s his time to unleash his best doggy paddle. As the end of the swim season closes, Broward County Parks & Recreation hosts special swim events for pooches only.
Barktoberfest will take place in sessions starting at 8 a.m. Saturday-Sunday, October 5-6 at Quiet Waters Park. The first session of the day is dedicated to small dogs, with sessions for all size dogs beginning at 9 a.m. until 3:50 p.m. Animal rescue and non-profit groups will also have booths at the event, and there will be a Doggie Market Place where you can pick up a special something for your best friend. The cost is $6.50/dog per 50-minute session or $5/dog for current dog park pass holders. For more information, call Quiet Waters Park at

Canines will have another opportunity to dive in this month at the K9 Water Festivals event at T.Y. Park’s Castaway Island. Taking place the weekends of October 12-13 and 19-20, well-behaved dogs can splash and play during 50-minute sessions scheduled on the hour. For this event, there will be a designated small-dog area (25 pounds and under) for all sessions. Some things to keep in mind:
• All dogs must be off-leash when inside the playgrounds.
• Dogs must be sociable and well-behaved.
• Dogs must have proof of current rabies vaccination and a county licensee tag.
• Water playgrounds will be closed to humans and open only for dogs (and lifeguards).
• All dogs are limited to two sessions per day.
